Administration

Tonya Rose, Principal

It is my pleasure to introduce myself as the principal of Tarkanian Middle School. I bring to this position many years of secondary experience. This is my twenty-second year with the Clark County School District (CCSD). I began my career with CCSD as an English teacher at Las Vegas High School. As I transitioned into administration, I also transitioned into middle school and that is where my devotion has been, to the middle school grades and students. I spent fifteen of my twenty-two years with CCSD in middle school. In my opinion, the middle school experience is pivotal for students’ academic growth and continued success.

I am proud to call myself a native of Long Island, New York, and I've been a Las Vegas resident since 1997. My educational journey led me to achieve a B.A. in Psychology from S.U.N.Y., Stony Brook, and later, I earned two master's Degrees in Education from U.N.L.V. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of teaching special education students at both middle and high school levels. It was in 2006, when Tarkanian Middle School first opened its doors, that I began my service as the dean of students. Over time, I progressed to my current role as assistant principal, embracing the opportunity to contribute to the school's growth and development.

I take great pride in being a native of Las Vegas, NV, and my commitment to education has spanned over two decades within the Clark County School District (CCSD). Growing up in an entertainment family, I had the privilege of performing as a professional Spanish, Flamenco, and Ballet Folklorico dancer for an impressive 30 years. My academic pursuits led me to earn both bachelor's and master's degrees from the esteemed UNLV after graduating from Valley High School. Over the course of 13 years, I dedicated myself to teaching ELA at various middle schools and high schools within the district, and I also had the wonderful opportunity to serve as a Learning Strategist at Cannon JHS for a considerable time. In recent years, I have excelled in administrative roles at the high school level, and I am eagerly looking forward to embarking on a new chapter in my career as I transition into a new role at Tarkanian Middle School. My enthusiasm to make a meaningful impact on the student's academic journey makes this transition all the more exciting and fulfilling

Mr. Martin relocated to Las Vegas from Michigan in 2006 and began his teaching career at Spring Valley High School. He taught music there for fourteen years and served as the Fine Arts department chair before joining the Tarkanian staff in 2020. Mr. Martin earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education with a minor in Jazz Studies from Wayne State University and a Master’s Degree in School Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. He is excited to be a part of the Tarkanian team and looks to build bonds within the school community. In his free time, Mr. Martin enjoys golfing, being outdoors, and spending time with his family and friends.

I am so happy to introduce myself as the newest Shark on the administrative team, here at Tarkanian Middle School. Prior to administration, I taught English at Western High School and Cannon Junior High School. Those experiences validated my belief that students who are able to make connections academically, emotionally, and socially, on their campuses are certain to experience greater satisfaction, not only in their professional life but also in their personal life. I am here to facilitate that. Originally from Youngstown, Ohio, I feel most at peace wandering through nature. Some of my hobbies are paddleboarding, hiking, eating fabulous food, cooking, and even cleaning! But, one of my most impressive possessions is my rock collection!
